Today's 15 games yielded 95 goals - that's an average of over 6 goals per game. Premier Division side VTS FC made the long journey to Reading to play Dee Road Rangers FC in The Berks & Bucks FA Sunday Intermediate Cup. A mouth watering tie with FC Sparta Corinthians in the semi final at the end of the month was on the cards, but wasn't to be as they lost 2-0. Two of our four Vale of Aylesbury Sunday Challenge Cup quarter finals went ahead today with both Prem sides seeing off lower league opponents in fine style. Britannia United welcomed Chearsley Cricketers to Stone Rec with the visitors already putting out higher league opposition in previous rounds. It was the end of a great cup run for The Cricketers as they went down 7-0, whilst at Walton Court, holders Elm Harm beat Thame Athletic by the same scoreline. In round one of The Tony Higginson Challenge Cup, Grenson FC, who have gone almost two months without a game until today, took on old rivals FC Torpedo Aylesbury for a place in the next round. Just like their epic battles in the past, this one was no different as Niall Pritchard's yellow and blues ran out 3-2 winners. A brace from David Daley and a yet to be confirmed 30 yard screamer from James Ward got the goals for Grenson to set up a quarter final tie with The Square FC. Round One of The Chris Payne Trophy was eventually completed today. Stoke Mandeville had no problems in seeing off 10 man AS Cavese 11-3 whilst in the other tie, AFC Waddesdon overcame lower league opposition in St Johns FC with a 2-1 win. The visitors dominated the first half and went into the break with a 1-0 lead through Paul Beazley. The home side equalized early in the second half before Mounym Benhaddou grabbed the winner from a drilled cross 15 minutes from time. With all of these outstanding cup games still to complete, we once again had a shortened league programme this Sunday. In The Prem, Padbury AFC eventually got to play Springhill FC
after the game had been postponed on a couple of previous occasions.
Springhill FC remain in second place after a fine 6-1 win though they are still
six points behind leaders FC Sparta Corinthians who beat Ickford 11-2 in
their first league game since the 22nd of November last year.
Incidentally, Padbury won't have to wait too long before they get the
chance to avenge defeat as they make the return trip next Sunday. In
today's other top flight game, Bucks (Aylesbury)'s visit to Nags Head was billed
as being a tight game and that's exactly what it turned out to be with the home
side winning it 2-1. In Div One, FC Sparta Corinthians Reserves were one of three
sides trailing leaders The Square FC by 9 points before the start of play
today. Only the three points would have given them any realistic hopes of
catching them as the two sides met at John Collett School in Wendover this
Sunday. The home side came through this
one with an impressive 3-1 win whilst down towards the bottom end,
Aristocrat lost 7-3 to Meadowcroft United at Walton Court. In Div Two, Excel Dents lost out narrowly at home to FC Wanderers 3-2 and with leaders Stoke Mandeville in cup action, Aylesbury Town took advantage to move into to top spot by a point after they brushed aside Ickford Reserves 6-2 at Meadowcroft with James Green getting a couple of their goals.
