reports, visit the clubs own websites here With blue skies and bright sunshine from first light, it looked as though things would turn out alright for today's games, but come 10.30, the heavens opened and the wind blew. So you may have thought that some games would fall victim of the weather? Well some did and some didn't - read on! We start today's review of games with a good news story. Over the past year or so, Padbury AFC have took some hefty beatings at the hands of today's opponents Britannia United. You may have read in the local press about a tragic incident near the village of Padbury recently and somewhat indirectly, this did involve the football club and as a result, all games at Padbury FC were not able to go ahead this week. After their turbulent start to the season, together with the daunting prospect of Brit's visit, it would have been all too easy for Padbury AFC to call the game off. However, they contacted their opponents and arranged to get the game on at Stone Rec and put in a very credible performance before going down 6-3. Sadly, the same can't be said about Nags Head FC and VTS FC who both called their games off last minute due to player shortage!! In today's only other top flight game, FC Sparta Corinthians increased their lead at the top of the table with an 8-4 win at home to Bucks (Aylesbury). The champions had only ten men throughout and Player/Manager James Baxter scored a hat trick It was a shortened Div One programme this week with Grenson, LBG (Aylesbury) and Meadowcroft United all having the day off. Leaders The Square FC were hoping to extend their lead at the top of the table in their home game with bottom side AS Cavese. Once again, player shortage from the visitors meant another no show!! FC Sparta Corinthians Reserves go second in the table for the time being as they came through a tight game with Aristocrat FC, 3-2 the final score and Cheddington FC got back to winning ways at last with a fine 5-1 win over AFC Waddesdon at a wet and windy Chedd Rec with Sam Edward getting four for the home side. FC Torpedo Aylesbury could have gone second tonight, but their game with Unique FC ended prematurely and amidst some controversy at a wet and miserable Weston Turville. With Unique leading 1-0 at half time and the playing conditions worsening, the Torpedo players appeared to leave for the dressing rooms before young referee Louis Constable had made his decision to bring the game to and an early end. No doubt you will read differing reports of events on the Unique FC website here and the FC Torpedo Aylesbury website here. At the end of the day, player safety is what's in the mind of the referee and with this pitch being the only one called off last week, it would appear that Mr Constable called it right.
In Div Two, leaders Jakemans Sports were the first casualties of that now infamous soggy pitch at Towersey as their game with Chearsley Cricketers fell victim of the weather. It was second versus third as Stoke Mandeville welcomed Aylesbury Town just a month on from when the visitors gave them a 5-1 trouncing in The Vale of Aylesbury Cup. In a remarkable turnaround, Stoke Mandeville won it 7-1 to go a point clear at the top. Excel Dents FC's injury crisis looks to be over and they returned to action with a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Thame Athletic and St Johns beat Ickford Reserves by the odd goal in seven in what looked like a cracker in the rain at Stone. Finally, Jon Eley's early season title favourites FC Wanderers appear to have put their dodgy patch behind them with a great 8-0 win over Southcourt Spitfires - a win that sees them climb to third.
