Cricketers stump high flying Grenson to progress in
The Vale of Aylesbury Cup. Britannia United see off a much improved
Padbury, Sparta beat 10 man Nags and VTS have no problems in dispatching
Meadowcroft United. Big wins also for Bucks (Aylesbury) and
Aylesbury Town
The Square go top of Div One as LBG slip up at home
to Sparta Reserves. Cavese get their fist point with a draw against
Unique and Cheddington are held at home to Aristocrat
Wanderers lose ground at the top of Div Two after surprise
defeat at Ickford Reserves and Jakemans Sports go second after beating St Johns
This
morning, it was Round Two of The Vale of Aylesbury Sunday Challenge Cup
sponsored by Aylesbury Lock & Key.
The game between AFC Waddesdon and Thame Athletic was postponed with the
authority of the league and it will be replayed next week.
Div One leaders Grenson took on Chearsley Cricketers
who were big winners in Round One. Here's some of the action from a bright
and breezy Meadowcroft:

The RAF provided a fly past over Meadowcroft in
honour of Round Two of The Vale of Aylesbury Sunday Challenge Cup and its new
sponsors - Aylesbury Lock & Key.
Wasn't that jolly decent of them??

In the doghouse!!
The dog was allowed out to watch the footie this morning.
Well not so much allowed out, but kicked out!!
Last night, a baby bird landed in the garden and he tried to eat it. The
Daughter came to the rescue of the bird, who was now unable to fly. She
gave it some bread and put the bird in a box and left it on the garden table so
it could survive the night. In the morning, she saw the bird looked better
and attempted to release it back to the wild, only for the dog to frighten it
away into the waiting jaws of next doors cat - oops!!

An early Chearsley effort goes wide.

The wind was a factor in today's game.

The Cricketers have an early chance...

...it looks on its way in...

...but Grenson's James Ward is on hand to tidy things up on the line.

The referee played an excellent advantage which allowed The Cricketers to go 1-0
up.

Referee Ben Campbell.

Not in use today, but the bottom pitch at Meadowcroft starts to get its Autumn
carpet of leaves.
How long can it survive as the ever expanding new Buckingham Park housing
complex creeps ever closer??

The first 2 months of the season have been played in fine weather.
The River Thame, which flows past Meadowcroft and Haywood Way, is starting to
rise though after some recent rain!

The first half saw few more chances.
This yellow card was for Grenson's David Daley despite the disbelief of new
summer signing Ryan Collings.

It was just a guess, but with Grenson being the favourites and with a strong
breeze at their backs, I took up a position behind the Chearsley goal in
anticipation of the oncoming second half onslaught.
Davis Daley's early diving header went close...

...and a similar effort sails over moments later.

Keeping up that famous tradition of great veteran Chearsley Cricketers
goalkeepers, Adam Lazaruk keeps out Daley again...

...and again.

Grenson skipper Daniel Ripley sees his header bounce off the top of the bar...

...and the same thing happens later as the The Cricketers defense hold firm.

Grenson had chance..

...after chance...

...after chance...

...after chance that went begging...

...and the inevitable happens as The Cricketers go up the other end and score
again on the break.
Final score, Grenson 0, Chearsley Cricketers 2.
In
the rest of the days cup games, FC Sparta Corinthians saw off 10 man Nags Head
4-1, this after Nags Keeper Connor White saw red early on and VTS FC beat
Meadowcroft United 7-2 in an an ill tempered affair at Haywood Way. Bucks
(Aylesbury) have made a poor start to their league campaign, but they have some
cup cheer this evening after winning through 4-1 at home at the expense of Excel
Dents. The big clash between two of top Div Two sides was over as a
contest by half time with Aylesbury Town ahead 4-0 at the break over Stoke
Mandeville. It ended 5-1 to The Town and in the final game, Britannia
United beat Padbury AFC 7-0.
In
league action, the chasing pack looked to make ground on Div One leaders Grenson
who as we saw, were in cup action. It's The Square FC, who are in great
form right now, that are celebrating tonight as they sit on top of the table
after a fine 3-1 win over FC Torpedo Aylesbury. LBG (Aylesbury) continue
their patchy form with a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to a much improved FC
Sparta Corinthians Reserves and Cheddington lost ground after a 3-3 draw at home
to lowly Aristocrat FC. AS Cavese earned their first point of the season
after an entertaining 3-3 draw with Unique FC today. Dan Nichols' mazy run
ended up in him being side swiped in the box and Stuart Philbey converted the
resulting spot kick on 80 minutes. The game will be remembered though for
an incredible 30 yard own goal - just one of many in today's games according to
Results Secretary Dave McArdle.
**Incidentally,
Dave has reported that all clubs have phoned in their results on time over the
past few weeks - well done, but he has asked that clubs try and remember their
goal scorers - even if the result is too painful to bare for some!!**
There
were just a couple of games in Div Two today as FC Wanderers blew the chance of
nicking top spot after a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Ickford Reserves. Two
sides who share the same ground met today as St Johns lost 3-1 'at home' to
Jakemans Sports at St John's Sports & Social Club - a result that sees
Jakeman's go second in the table this evening.

are today's results
