HEADLINES -
Prem champs not ready to give up their crown as they stage a remarkable comeback against their old rivals.  Aristocrat move into second spot with a win over Rockwood
Topboys back on top of Div One with another big win.  Belgrave put 11 past Grenson.  No joy for Cublington in their new home and Stone lose out to Yeoman
Elm Farm hit 7 past The Cricketers to remain ahead of the field.  Nags squeeze past the Exiles.  Big wins for Excel Dents, Cheddington Res and Thame Athletic and it's all square between Walton Street Rangers and FC Wanderers

It was a cold start to the day and after Wednesdays heavy rain that saw Haywood Way flood, it seemed like the clash of the top two may have been in some doubt.  The frost cleared in no time and remarkably, the flood waters were nowhere to be seen which meant the eagerly awaited first meeting of the season between VTS FC and Aston Clinton S&SC went ahead in glorious Autumn sunshine.

The current champions could only rally the bare 11 men and here's the action from Haywood Way:

The River Thame lies only yard from the touchline at Haywood Way.
The banks burst midweek, but the waters reseeded in time for kick off.
And yes it was only a matter of time before the dog jumped in it!!

It was a frosty start and there were no signs of any players with 10 minutes to go before kick off...

...but despite it being the coldest, it was left to the oldest!!
Veteran VTS defender Nigel Sibley was first out to brave the cold.

Champions VTS could only muster 11 men for the big clash and it was Darren Woolard (17) who opened the scoring for Aston Clinton S&SC...

...and Vincenzo Iannone made it 2-0 not long after.

"HANDBALL"  With constant pressure bearing down on the VTS goal, this appeal was waved away by the ref...

...and that ref was Paul Bateman (left).
Paul was called at 8am this morning to do the game as the original ref, Mike Dobson (pictured here with Paul) picked up an injury in an ADL game yesterday.

Seemingly dead and buried at the break, the champs came racing out in the second half and pulled one back almost immediately through Michael Ainger (yellow 7)...

...and moments later, Craig Haywood (out of shot) makes it 2-2 and it's game on.

It's getting tense now and Mr Bateman dishes out a yellow to someone...

...and someone else - but I think we know who that may be!!

Dave Watson's unchallenged far post header lands nicely in the arms of keeper Gary Wiltshire.

This looked like being the last chance of the game as this effort for VTS sails over the bar.

This unexpected pitch invasion held play up for a few seconds...

...and that was just enough for Grant Kawazinski to seal the win for VTS in stoppage time.

Final score - VTS FC 3, Aston Clinton S&SC 2.

In the only other Premier Division game today, FC Aristocrat beat Rockwood 3-1 and now occupy second place in the table.

In Div One, leaders Halifax (Aylesbury) took a day off as their game with Padbury United Reserves was call off last week.  This gave The Bell Topboys the opportunity to regain that top spot today and they did so in some style beating Stone FC 10-0 at The Rec.  AFC Belgrave remain hot on the heels of the leaders and they went one better by beating Grenson 11-0.  It was a much tighter game at Wingrave & Rowsham Sports & Social Club which is now the new home of Cublington FC.  They were unable to christen their new home with a win however, as they were beaten 2-0 by visitors Bucks (Aylesbury).  Unique FC and Yeoman fought out an entertaining game with the visitors eventually taking all three points with a narrow 3-2 win.

Division Two leaders Elm Farm FC consolidated their place at the top of the table with a comfortable 7-1 win over in form Chearsley Cricketers.  Nags Head are in second place tonight as they beat fellow high flyers Aylesbury Exiles 1-0 at Meadowcroft.  Winslow Town were surprisingly beaten 4-3 away at Cheddington Res whilst Walton Street Rangers and FC Wanderers shared 6 goals in an entertaining game.  There were big wins for two sides in this division today as Excel Dents won 5-1 away at Ickford Res and Thame Athletic won by the same scoreline against Padbury AFC who were the visitors at Towersey.
