News from all of today's
league games.
HEADLINES - After being pipped to the title last season, Aston Clinton S&SC have strengthened their already impressive side with some summer signings and their great start to the season continued today with a comfortable 5-1 over newly promoted Rockwood at Fairford Leys. John Roberts' men have now opened up a gap at the top of the table as current champions VTS FC came up against a resilient FC Aristocrat and the points were shared in tense 4-4 draw. There'll be celebrations at The Chandos Arms tonight as they picked up their first win of the season with tight 3-2 win at home to Ickford. In a strange quirk of fate, the 'Fixture Computer' churned out the repeat fixtures of 7 days ago in Division One. Yeoman FC took a 7-1 beating at the hands of Bucks (Aylesbury) last week, but they showed determination and grit in turning things around and grabbing the points in a narrow 2-1 win this week. All the other results went the same as last week with runaway leaders The Bell Topboys beating Cublington 6-0 and Halifax (Aylesbury) continued their great start to the season as they beat Unique FC 3-1. AFC Belgrave beat Padbury Utd Res 6-0 last week and it ended up the exact same result today - a result that puts them on top of the league tonight on goals scored. Stone FC and Grenson had a day off last week but the two sides squared up at Meadowcroft this morning with Terry Medd's men gaining their first win of the season with 4-1 win. I was reffing the Div Two game between Winslow Town and Chearsley Cricketers that kicked off at 12.30, so I only had the chance to catch the first half - here's the action:
In Div Two, that 12.30 kick off I had the pleasure of refereeing (council pitch shortage meant the late kick off) between leaders Winslow Town and Chearsley Cricketers produced a thriller. Cricketers defender Nick Grimsdell took everyone by surprise as his first half goal kick sailed over everyone's head and despite the efforts of the Winslow keeper, the ball ended up in the back of the net. They went into the break with a two goal lead, but Winslow were back on equal terms with two goals in the opening minute of the second half. It could have gone either way, but The Cricketers went ahead midway through a close second half and deserved their 3-2 win in the end. Leaders Elm Farm FC stretched that lead at the top with a staggering 13-2 win over Padbury AFC. Right behind them are Aylesbury Exiles who won 6-3 away to Ickford Res whilst FC Wanderers and Excel Dents shared four goals in their game. Cheddington Reserves got their season back on track as they piled on the agony for fellow newcomers Thame Athletic at Towersey and Nags Head threw away 4-0 lead to battling Walton Street Rangers who fought back to earn a 6-6 draw.
