All the news, results and some match action from today's league and County Cup games

For more match reports, visit the clubs own websites here

The County Cup got underway this weekend with most of our Prem sides featuring in Intermediate Cup round one action.  As usual, we had some non runners with Bucks (Aylesbury) and VTS FC both receiving byes and Springhill FC, as we know, not taking part in any cup comps this season.

FC Sparta Corinthians made the long trip to MK to take on Swan Fenny FC only to find that their opponents couldn't muster enough troops so it was straight back in the cars home for our champs!!  Padbury AFC, playing in this competition for the first time, faced Wycombe's Queen Head Rangers FC who were routed to the bottom of their table before the start of play today.  It was a very disappointing debut for our boys as they were dumped out 4-2.  Elm Farm took on FC Beaconsfield who were sitting unbeaten in second place in Wycombe's top league and with what appeared to be a seriously depleted side, Kenny Fletcher's men were humbled 6-1 to bow out at the first hurdle.  Not for the first time in this competition, Ickford were drawn against Belmont (Chesham) and not for the first time either, they were hammered, this time it was 8-0 to our neighbours from Chesham, and not for the first time did they fail to phone in the result!!!

**Just another reminder (and it's a change to league rules this season) that ALL clubs who are playing away in the County Cup are required to phone in the result (or the outcome of the game if it didn't take place) to Dave McArdle**

Britannia United's debut in this competition never really took off as they were beaten 2-0 to Slough's Airport Motors FC.

So it's congratulations to Nags Head FC who were are only actual cup winners this morning as they narrowly beat Chesham's Magpies 91 FC 1-0 at The Winslow Centre.

There was just the one game in our Premier Division this weekend when VTS FC were the visitors to leaders Springhill FC.  So far, the newcomers have played three and won three scoring 7 in their first outing, six in their second, and today it was 5 as they beat VTS FC 5-0 to go well clear at the top.  Things may start to get a bit tougher for the inmates over the next couple of weeks with both Elm Farm and Sparta getting their visiting orders in the next fortnight!

In Division One, there were a few changes to the programme, but the game between FC Torpedo Aylesbury and AFC Waddesdon went ahead in glorious sunshine at Walton Court.  Both sides served up a cracker and here's some of the action:

The FC Torpedo Aylesbury WAGS were out this morning, though they didn't appear too interested in what was happening in front of them!!

Despite the appeals, the flag stayed down, but this early AFC Waddesdon chance went inches wide.

'Sixty something' year old Reg Cross was today's referee.
Reg qualified as a referee in 1979 - that's before most of today's players were even born!!
Reg, the Vice Chairman and Treasurer of the Aylesbury Referees Association will complete his 30th consecutive season as a ref this year.
Reg is still active in our local leagues and The Hellenic Football League and it's thanks to people like him that all our games are covered by a qualified man in black.

This effort is neatly chipped over Torpedo keeper Joe Moran to put Waddesdon 1-0 up...

...before one of many talking points in the game happened.
Torpedoes Paul Strong goes in for a challenge with Waddesdon keeper Ian Godochild...

...everyone ends up in heap on the floor...

...play on says Mr Cross and it's all square...

...just one of many good, physical old fashioned tough challenges that were waved away by the ref today - goal, now get on with it!!

Torpedoes go 2-1 ahead...

...and another crunching tackle is allowed to go by Mr Cross.

Keeper Joe Moran tips this one on to the crossbar...

...but it drops kindly to the ground to be put in by a Torpedo player to make it 2-2.

One of FC Torpedo Aylesbury's big defenders.

Another big talking point in the game as the Waddesdon striker takes it round the keeper...

...only to be muscled out of it on the line by the big fella - nothing wrong with this says Mr Cross yet again.

Torpedo's Rob Floutier makes it 3-2...

...and moments later, another major incident in the game as keeper Joe Moran takes out the Waddesdon player.

Mr Cross has seen it all before in his 30 years as a top official, so it's just a talking too for Joe Moran this time...

...and perhaps the punishment fit the crime as Waddesdon drew level from the resulting free kick.

AFC Waddesdon keeper Ian Goodchild under pressure.

Well held...

...well held again...

...and well held again!

Paul Strong restores the lead to make it 4-3 to Torpedo's...

...and here is the man himself.

4-3 to FC Torpedo Aylesbury at half time then, but Waddesdon drew level early in the second half with this header.

AFC Waddesdon's Andrew George closely watched by Torpedo's Rob Floutier.

A spectacular save from Joe Moran.

The weather was more like Waikiki Hawaii than Walton Court Aylesbury this morning...

...and this brought out the beauties!

4-4 then with just seconds to go and Torpedo's win it...

You're the match winner mate, don't be shy now...

...it's Torpedo's Matt Tatum who is the hero as his 90th minute strike wins it 5-4 for FC Torpedo Aylesbury...

...so it's Torpedo boss Doug Haines who takes all three points, and the match ball, from this amazing game.

In Div Two, the Towersey derby was switched to Bedgrove Park when unbeaten Thame Athletic took on Chearsley Cricketers.  The Cricketers were the eventual winners by the odd goal in seven in what looked like a great game.  Some 100% records were set to disappear today as four of our previously undefeated sides faced each other this morning.  FC Wanderers entertained leaders Stoke Mandeville and despite two goals from Darren Woolard, it was the newcomers who remain top of the table tonight with a fine 5-2 win.  Aylesbury Town are hot on their heels though as they go second after an impressive 4-0 win over previously unbeaten Jakemans Sports.  Excels Dents have struggled somewhat to get their season going, but things seemed to click into place today after their 9-3 drubbing of Ickford Reserves and Winslow Town finally got their 2009/2010 campaign underway with a trip to St Johns FC.

Despite being under County FA suspension for the first few weeks of the season, Winslow Town have dug deep and coughed up the money to keep going.  It's the usual story, old ex-players leaving and owing money that has dropped the club right in it.  Where others may have called it a day, they have re grouped and kept going and we congratulate them for their efforts.  Despite this, they were beaten 3-1 today, but the future looks brighter thanks to the hard work of some.
