HEADLINES - The small amount of teams in our Premier Division was a cause for concern at the start of the season. The possibility of a gulf in class and the lack of credible competition and enjoyment was discussed at many a Management Committee Meeting. Today's results could see the increase in those concerns for some sides as an incredible 49 goals came in just the 4 games. Overnight leaders Aston Clinton S&SC were at home to one of our reluctant promoted sides at the end of last season, Chandos Arms. The game ended 11-0 to the hosts. FC Aristocrat have had no problems in finding their feet in the top flight as they came away from Ickford with a 10-2 win. Last week, I incorrectly reported that AFC Belgrave had gone top of the table. This wasn't the case, but tonight there's no doubting that the current Chris Payne Trophy holders are joint top tonight. They comfortably beat Yeoman 3-0 at Westcott Sports & Leisure Centre this morning. The Bell Topboys were unbeaten in all competitions before today - scoring 38 goals in their first 4 games along the way. They had their first visit to the picturesque Kimble Cricket Club today and came away with a 1-0 defeat to Halifax (Aylesbury) who maintain their 100% winning start to the season and are joint top tonight. Despite this setback, the Topboys remain top on goal difference tonight. Stone FC have another 100% league record so far this season as they won for the second week running. They comfortably beat Padbury Utd Res 6-1 who after winning promotion and coming runners up in last seasons Chris Payne Trophy at the first attempt last season, are now finding the going tough. Grenson's troubles continue this season as they were unable to field a side for today's game with Bucks (Aylesbury). Unique FC bounced back from two defeats with a 3-0 won over Cublington at Fairford Leys. Striker Tom Brindley scored twice, but blew the chance of a hat-trick as his second half spot kick sailed a mile over the bar! Division Two continues to provide the most excitement as things start to tighten up at the top and the bottom. Leaders Elm Farm dropped their first points of the season as they shared 4 goals in an entertaining game with Nags Head who move up right behind them into second spot in the table. Aylesbury Exiles' injury ravaged squad took a 9-0 hammering at the hands of Excel Dents who had to make some enforced squad changes themselves. Chearsley Cricketers climb the table after their second win in as many weeks as they thumped Cheddington Res 5-0. Walton Street Rangers have had a difficult start to life in the league, but unlike giving up like some others, they have stuck at it. They will be looking at the table with some pride tonight as they are now unbeaten in three after their fantastic 6-0 win away to Padbury AFC. Another one of our sides are celebrating tonight after they won their first game today. Congratulations to them as they beat local rivals Ickford Res 3-1 at Towersey.
